KOPTHIONE Na: LEATHER BIOCIDE Who doesn’t like to have classic shoes, bags or clothes made of leather? Bags, shoes and clothes made of leather are comfortable to use and add up our style quotient. Leather is used in bookbinding, leather wallpaper as a furniture covering. With such a wide application for leather, the leather industry is one of the most sort out and important industry since ages. The leather manufacturing process is divided into three sub-processes: preparatory stages, tanning and crusting. All true leathers will undergo these sub-processes. “Leather tanning” is a general term for the numerous processing steps involved in converting animal hides or skins into finished leathers. Leather is produced from skins of four different types of wild and domestic animals: cattle, sheeps, goat and reptiles. Tanning is a process by which animal hides and skins are converted into leather. In the production and distribution of leather, two types of bio deterioration are encountered: bacterial (which generally applies to hides and skins in the early stages of the process) and fungal (which usually applies after tannage has taken place). Fungal bio deterioration can affect leather both in part-processed condition within the tannery and after it has been made into and distributed as a fully finished article. Fungal deterioration is apparent from the growth of moulds on leather. Moulds are infestation on various bio-substrates which tend to affect the physical structure and characteristics.
