Pullulan in Facial Masks
Pullulan is a natural ingredient derived from Marine Black Yeast known as Aureobasidium Pullulans. Our Pullulan is manufactured using natural fermentation of plant extracts. Pullulan can be used in many applications, but it is particularly helpful in face mask formulations. It has adhesive and binding properties that greatly enhance face mask formulations so that the mask will stay stuck on skin better. It does not affect color, so if the formulation was a transparent facemask, Pullulan would not affect the transparency in any way. It is also oil resistant, making it even better to stick on skin regardless of what natural oils may reside on the skin’s surface. It is important to be conscious about what ingredients go into facial personal care and cosmetic products because they come into close contact with our eyes, ears, nose, and mouth. Another reason that pullulan is a great choice for a face mask formulation is because it is natural and edible. Pullulan is even used to make vegetative capsules, so ingestion is completely harmless! Pullulan is also water soluble, which makes it easier to remove from skin or hair when washing it out with water.
